Waiting for Normal
Twelve-year-old Addie Schmeeter’ s life is changing--not for the better. Her ex-step father, Dwight, has done all he can but he’s been forced to leave Addie and her mother (called “Mommers”) off at a trailer on a city corner. Mommers has an all-or-nothing approach to life: a food fiesta or an empty pantry, her way or no way. All-or-nothing never adds up to normal. Now Addie is heartbroken to be separated from her younger half sisters but she puts up a brave front. She says, “Me, I’m good at getting used to things. Been doing it all my life.” Addie is resilient but there is no denying that she craves a home where she can count on what’s going to happen next.
